Head Pins

Pairs of these pins are sometimes found in high status graves. A similar pair of pins with globular terminals was found as part of the grave goods of Queen Arnegunde (c. 580). This pair is patterned after the simpler set of Weingarten grave 271 (7th c.). They are usually positioned on either side of the head in the temple region (these however had been found in the 'thorax' area), and are believed to be used to secure a veil headress.
